Harrogate Homeless Project is asking local people to get involved in a fundraising Virtual Run / Walk this October to make a difference and help increase awareness of homelessness as well as boost the charity’s funds.

The event is being supported by specialist running store Up and Running and participants can challenge themselves to walk or run, 5K, 10K or a half marathon on any chosen day during the month of October.

Runners can take part on their own or with a group, with medals being awarded to those who complete the challenge.

Each participant is being asked to contribute £10, which is the cost of a hot meal, shower, clothing and laundry facilities for someone experiencing homelessness. They are also being invited to share their training and running journey on social media and their reasons for taking part, to raise awareness of the charity’s work in the community.

Francis McAllister, CEO of Harrogate Homeless Project, said: “The Virtual Run has been set up to be as inclusive as possible, enabling people of all abilities to take part and set their own personal challenge.

“We hope to get as much of the Harrogate District as possible walking, jogging or running for homelessness this October in support of our 30th anniversary fundraising and publicity campaign.”

Prizes are being provided by Up and Running, which has donated a £75 voucher for fastest 5k, 10k and half marathon times and a £100 voucher for the top fundraising team.  In store discounts are also being offered to participants.
